Does anyone read my links?

Do you ever wonder just how many people really read the links you post on Facebook or Twitter, for example? Does anyone really care?

Sometimes it’s hard to say if anyone at all is paying attention to your Facebook or Twitter accounts.  Not everyone is an influencer or active participant who will let you know what they thought of your link.  If you’re posting good quality content and your followers are genuine, odds are good they’re listening. The problem is many people are more likely to observe than join a discussion.

Do you have a Corporate Social Media Policy?

Many of us are using social media in our day-to-day lives. Yes, even during work hours.  Many small business owners don’t see a potential problem with social media use and leave it to the employees to practice “good judgment” and use common sense. The idea that someone would post inappropriate statements, photos, or comments, for example is not of great concern. Plus, you don’t want to micro-manage your team. What good does that do? Actually, having a corporate social media policy can do a lot of good and still provide a feeling of empowerment.

Facebook Fan Pages Redesign

Recently Facebook launched their latest update: Page Redesign. You can get notifications about activity on your page, see stories from the pages you like in your news feed, and interact with other pages as your page. This is great for administrators and for businesses. Basically, pages will have more reach and exposure.

Your Facebook page will work more like your profile page now. It will showcase your pictures along the top of your page, you will be notified when fans interact with your page, there will be a news feed for your page and, my favorite, the ability to like, comment and post to other pages as your page.  It’s very exciting.

A Social Media Tail

I had a wonderful social media experience with my dog’s pet insurance company and wanted to share it here. I have to say, I don’t manage their social media program. The person who does should be very proud of the work they are doing.

Let me start my story at the beginning. My Bernese Mountain Dog had a run in with a groundhog this summer. The groundhog had gotten the upper hand and my poor pup had to be rushed to the animal hospital. OK. It wasn’t as bad as I thought but the bill was good enough reason for me to have a nervous breakdown. If you own a pet you know what I mean. Those vet bills can be outrageous.

The Scoop On LinkedIn Open Groups

Some of you may have noticed that LinkedIn now has a group feature called “Open Groups”.  This feature allows anyone to view discussions and comment on them, member or not. Many group managers are concerned the discussions will no longer be private and may cause members to stop posting. Don’t worry! Unless the manager changes the group restrictions of existing groups to “open” the discussions remain private and only visible to members. If the group is switched to “open” each member will receive notification of the change. However, moving forward, all newly formed groups will automatically be designated “open”.
