I’m talking about procrastination. Yes, you know that word! It sends shivers up spines and causes many recurring nightmares of missing homework and running like a chicken without its head down a long high school hallway, or worse. Agh!
We all suffer from procrastination at every age. I can remember back to my childhood having projects due for school and waiting until the last minute. Then I would get stressed out and hand in something that could have been better, despite my mother’s warnings. Today, I see it in my own children. I even fall victim on occasion. However, being responsible for many different blogs I can’t let procrastination get the best of me. So, I have set a goal to show my family (and myself) how to avoid becoming the “procrastinator”.
Here are some steps I take to stay on top of everything and never let projects get away from me:
Make a calendar: Write every task and deadline down on the calendar. This way you can plan your day/week/month around your tasks. As you complete them, mark them off. You’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment.
Re-think your workspace: Do you feel comfortable, creative and energized in your work area? A good work environment is key for successful task completion. If you don’t think yours generates that feng shui thing change it up. What a great excuse for some redecorating.
Set goals and be held accountable: Don’t just set goals. Tell others about them. You’ll be held accountable. There’s nothing like having to explain to others why you didn’t do what you said you were going to do.
Reward yourself: You did it! You completed a huge task and now it’s time to celebrate. Treat yourself to a day at the spa or nice evening out. You deserve it!Task complete!
